Any suggestions on why tryiing to build a report of
recently changed files takes an extremely long period of
time to appear? Any suggestions or idea would be
appreciated.

Time is relative. Long is not a time interval. It's a perception. Have a cup
of coffee, and think about upgrading your hardware.

Welp...how long is long? 5 minutes or 5 hours...if it's 5 minutes that might not be unusual for a big web with lots of links, if it's 5 hours thats pretty long for any web.
