reply to bob re cmd.exe

Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't work.
I have a feeling the drivers are'nt being loaded.
If I put xp boot disk in and reboot will I loose any
apps or data IE documents, internet settings, JPEG files etc?
 
No, you can do an in-place upgrade and it will keep your current programs,
files, and settings.
