I am using Outlook 2003. When I reply to a message in my Archived Inbox, the
reply does not show up in my current (or archived) Sent Items folder. Why is
that? Actually, in the cases at hand I changed the name of the recipient in
the Reply message - I don't know if that contributes to the problem.

Thanks.

Jim

I discovered the answer to my own question. When you (or at least when I)
reply to a message in the Archive In Box, the reply is posted in the Archive
InBox, not the current Sent Items box or the Archive Sent Items box. Don't
ask me why.

It will never be posted in the Archive PST's Sent Items. If it's in any
Sent Items folder, it will be in the default one. However, if you have the
option "In folders other than the Inbox, save replies with original message"
on Tools>Options>E-mail Options>Advanced E-mail Options, then it's perfectly
understandable why your reply would be placed in the Archive's Inbox if
that's where the original to which you replied resides.
