I'm using Outlook 2002 XP. When replying to an email the
new message comes up with a system temp file
automatically attached. I've been deleting the file and
proceeding, but I'm not sure why it is doing this in the
first place. Any toughts.

Sounds like you MAY be sending the original message as an attachment. It is
stored in a temp file while open.
Go to Tools>Options>Preferences Tab, click E-mail Options and change "attach
original message" to another option in the "When replying to a message" and
"When forwarding a message" sections of "On replies and forwards".

Hope this works. Please post back either way.
Good Luck
