Replication failed on new server

I have promoted a member server to run AD (server2).
Installed DNS and WINS, configured etc.. all seems ok. I
can replicate AD from server2 to my main server (server1)
however i cannot replicate the other way round.

Errors with event id 1265.

Checked DNS and there are no srv records for server2
registered DNS and restarted netlogon, this did create the
srv. Can ping when it type ping server2.mydomain.co.uk
and vice versa. Did an NSLOOKUP on server2 and saw the
following:

can't find server name for address 192.168.7.1: NON-
EXISTENT domain
default servers are not available
default server:unknown
address: 192.168.7.1

added static mappings in WINS but i am unsure of where to
go now. Are the 2 problems related i.e SRV records not
creating due to WINS errors??? Tried to demote server and
start again but it errors with DNS lookup errors. I know
it is probably something silly that i have forgotten to
do. Please help!!!

Do you run DNS on both servers? If you are, are they AD integrated? If not
you must make sure that the SRV records exists on both DNS servers.

Do you configuring your DCs to use their own DNS or the other one?

/Jimmy
