Replicating and 2003-2007...

Hi all,

The database I built is used by 25 users on a daily base. They now moved to
a new office and installed 13 new computers for another 13 new users. Old
computers and the DB run on 2003, but the new ones have 2007. Everything
works fine but what do you suggest? Ugrade all or keep it as it is?

Second question. I also need to work with that database but I live at 5000km
from there. (VPN is not an option (tried it) )
I go there once every 4 months so started thinking... would you recommend
replicating for this?
I would then be able to get access to the data and work with it without
having to ask others about it all the time. Every 4 months when I would go
back I could then synchronise... Or NOT??

Anyone that knows what a good solution could be to my problem?

Thanks

You have no problem. :-)

Where the front ends are sharing the back end without problem there is
no problem. I would be sure to perform frequent Backup, Compact,
Repair and Restore cycles on that back end. Using the tools provided
by Access will not protect the back end they only perform actions on
the local application (front end).

Unless you're making design changes on the tables, you don't need to
be up to the minute concurrent with your users' data. If you need to
monitor their data then just download a copy of their back end.

I would do as you probably already do: design and test at my own
place. Implement major changes (involving the schema) either
over-the-line with strict coordination with the client or when you
visit the client site.

I see no role at all for replication in the scenario you describe.

Thanks for your feedback.
I did some more research on replicating and as the amount of data that would
need to be updated every 4 months would be too big, you are right,
replication is not the best option. I will continue working the way I do
now... exports and other people doing the inputting of data.

Larry, you are right I do the changes on my machine and then update the
front end and Back end once every 4 months when I'm there...
