replacing/updating calendars without creating duplicate events

I am providing clients with football fixtures in a calendar dowload. When
fixtures change, my clients need to download an amended calendar file. At
present the new calendar sits alongside the old one, creating multiple
entries for the same event.

2007 users do not have this problem. I'd like to know if there is a way to
help 2003 users by automatically deleting the exisitng calendar entries when
the updated ones are downloaded.

Any ideas most welcome!
