Replacing motherboard

Bad Bubba

I am looking for opinions on the following motherboards:

AMD BOARDS:

GIGABYTE "GA-7VT600 1394" KT600 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU

GIGABYTE "GA-7N400 Pro2 Rev 2" nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset Motherboard for
AMD Socket A CPU

INTEL BOARDS:

GIGABYTE "GA-8IPE1000 PRO-G" i865PE Chipset Motherboard for Intel Socket
478 CPU

ASUS "P4S800D-E Deluxe" SiS655TX Chipset Motherboard for Intel Socket
478 CPU

I've read the reviews on the NewEgg site, but I value the opinions of
many people in this newsgroup more.

I've always been an AMD guy, but I'm seriously considering going with an
Intel this time because I do so much with video.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I personally wouldn't waste my money on a Gigabyte board. Stick with
Asus, Abit or DFI. Have you checked out the DFI Lanparty Pro?? It's
awesome.

Really? I have two Athon XP systems with Gigabyte boards and they've
been rock solid. Any specific reason for not liking them?

And thanks for the tip on the DFI, I'll take a look at it.

He is probably referring to current crop of Gigabyte's Socket 754 and 939
boards which have been receiving terrible reviews for not implementing the
nForce3 chipset properly. One or two of these boards are $200+.

Since you are choosing Socket A, Gigabyte may indeed offer you an excellent
product.

Atually, I was talked into the P4 because of all the work I do in Video.

Avoid THAT Asus board; it uses an SIS chipset, which are not particulary
stable.

What about:

ASUS "P4P800-E Deluxe" i865PE Chipset Motherboard for Intel Socket 478
CPU

ok perhaps you guys could help me, had the GA-7VT600 for about a year
now, and i was using a 1gig PC2100 stick and an older 256 strip i had
laying around, well about a week ago everything slowed, turns out the
1gig strip is not booting (took it back to frys and they tested it).
Had a lifetime on it, swaped it with them, installed it today, doing
the same. when i boot with just the 1 gig all i get is the "memory
beep". 256 works just fine, updated bios, windows XP updates current,
anyone have any ideas? might sound like an addict here, but i need my
EQ fix and i cant do it at 256 =/

Any help is greatly appreciated guys. thanks

Ummmm . . . are you sure that EITHER of the 1Gig sticks was bad? To me this
sounds like a mainboard problem or (less likely) a power supply
roblem. -Dave
