Replacing HP Deskjet 895Cxi with Alphajet

Has anyone had any problems doing this? I have a Deskjet 895Cxi and it
has an HP colour cartridge PN C1823D (although interestingly the user
guide said I should be using C1823A). I ordered a colour cartridge from
Alphajet - part number AJC23. I've just tried to replace my empty HP
colour cartridge and it won't co-operate. The alphajet cartridge fits in
and closes no problem but when the lid is closed the Injet LED on the
printer just flashes slowly. I put the empty HP cartridge back in and the
light went out. So it's definitely a problem with the alphajet.

If I look closely at the electrical copper contacts on the alphajet there
are a few more than on the HP. I can see in the printer all the metal pins
that should line up with the copper contacts. I'm guessing that the
alphajet might have a few more contacts to accomodate a wider range of
printers so the fact it has more contacts overall doesn't worry me.
However, the alphajet is missing two copper contacts in the centre that
appear on the HP. They seem to line up with a vertical metal bar in the
cartridge cage on the printer.

Am I likely to get anywhere with this? Should I just chuck them and try
something l like JETTECH?

Why not Buy HP Cartridge I've had nothing but trouble with 3rd party cart's,
they ether don't work or 1 colour dries up after a couple of weeks.

It's unlikely it's a newly manufactured cartridge. That would proably
violate many HP patents. Most likely, it's a refilled/refurbished HP
cartridge.

It's possible they gave you the wrong refilled cartridge. It could be
either a #41 or a #78. It might also be the half-full #17(?) designed for
the 810 and other bottom-end models.

As for the old (23A/23D) numbers: The 23A was the original release.
Shortly after release, it was replaced by the 23D, with slightly LESS
capacity. There is also a 23G, with half of the 23D's capacity.

Thanks for the detailed information. Very interesting. I've now had a
closer look at the cartridge.

I've peeled of the "Replacement Ink Jet Cartridge" sticker and found the
original HP sticker underneath. It is indeed a HP C1823G which from what
you say doesn't have a huge capacity anyway. I think this may be my one
and only flirtation with re-filled cartridges! I've been digging around
the compatibility charts on the HP website and it doesn't look like this
cartridge is compatible with the deskjet 895cxi. So perhaps the comapny I
bought it from have made a mistake.

Call them and give them a chance to make it right. If they don't fix
your problem then post some factual messages about your experience.
