I have just discovered that my Win XP original CD has been cracked (by
someone mishandling it). Is there any way I can get this disk replaced? It
is an OEM version that came with a Gigabyte motherboard upgrade. I am
fearful that, if I have to install a component or reinstall because of a
problem (which I've already had to do twice), I am really in trouble. I am
in Australia, by the way.

Hi Tony

As you have an OEM CD, you will have to contact your supplier, to see if
they can help.

Hi Will

My "supplier" was on eBay and his supplier barely speaks English (Gigabyte
Taiwan) and is not terribly helpful even with normal technical issues. If I
obtained a copy of another Win XP Home CD, is it possible to use the
authentication backups I have to reinstate it, or at least use it to make
changes to the configuration of my system? Or could I use it, in combination
with recoverable parts of my CD, to recreate my install CD? What is unique
about the install CD?
