If there are more than two current DCs available to transfer to, I believe
it does it by random since DCPROMO looks in the SRV records for other
available DCs. If they are at default weights and priorities, it's a random
response, as would a client picking a service location.

I can't find any articles on this specific behavior, but assuming so because
of the way the SRV queries and responses work.
You're correct, although it's not really random if you consider sites
and subnets and the usual locator mechanisms. :)

Laura, Herb! You two must really love each other! ;-)
I apologize. Herb's web site provides links to brain dumps, and
because I have issues with that, I tend to be a bit abrasive with
Herb.

As a fellow trainer, I totally agree on the braindump issue and have pointed
that out in the past with Herb, but the links remain.

Understood!

Anyway, no need to be sorry. Certain people run some
people way and other people another way. I am a pretty
easy going guy ( Hey! I worked in the Entertainment
Industry for 2.5 years and did not kill any of those
morons so I guess that statement is true! ).

Herb can be abrasive as well. Shoot, we all can at
times. No biggie!

Cary

PS...would the links to braindumps jeopardize herbs MVP
status with Microsoft? I mean, I did not read all the
fine print to the NDA but I can only ass/u/me that there
is something in there about that!

I didn't know that Herb was an MVP, but I would assume that it would,
given that braindumps are illegal. I asked him about the links in the
past, and he told me that he has no ethical issues with posting the
links.

I didn't know that Herb was an MVP, but I would assume that it would,
given that braindumps are illegal. I asked him about the links in the
past, and he told me that he has no ethical issues with posting the
links.

The problem is largely the definition of "braindump" which evolved over the
years (much like hacker) -- when I used it years ago, I meant only notes
for yourself or suggestions on what others should study and NEVER actual
questions and answers.

(The link you referenced has been gone for some time and even then
the destination of that link had not been updated since 1999 and seldom
contained
actual questions or answers since those who maintained that site discouraged
that too; nothing like the current "Real Questions and Answers" web sites.)

Please note that your NDA is (by MS) NULL & VOID once something is
publicly known, but even then *I* never have and never will report actual
questions and answers.

If you check my posts over the years you will find that I have ALWAYS
avoiding posting questions or answers and have encouraged everyone to
avoid "studying from braindump sites" or even from "practice tests."

This doesn't mean that I have told people not to use "practice tests" but
rather just not to "STUDY" from them but use them to find weaknesses
in their own preparation for ACTUAL STUDY from the Product, TechNet,
or a good source.

Let's stick to technical subjects on the newsgroup. I will be happy to
argue
if someone posts a technical error OR happy to hear about it if I post one
myself.

Yes it would, if he is an MVP, and would also be a consideration for an MVP
award.

He is not currently an MVP.

I'd be happy to see you remove the braindumps links from your site,
and looking, I see that you've done so since yesterday. Kudos. There
is *no* defense for braindumps, IMO. Ever.

The issue is moot on several points.

You must forgive me, I was just responding to Cary's questions/comments.

Point dropped. I checked your site today and you did remove them. Good for
you.

Just an FYI, you have alot of dead links there. One example is the TCP/IP
section. There are others. Thought you may want to know.
