replacing a horizontal line

I would like to convert a very large Word document to a
table. The Word document has a useful break between
sections dlineated with a 'horizontal line'. I would like
to replace all horizontal lines with a special character
that will be useful to use as a character to separate
columns when converting text to a table.

Any ideas?

It would be handy if this would work, but it won't. Graphic lines are
drawing objects, and Find will not find anything in the drawing layer. A
graphic (clip art or picture) must be In Line With Text to be found.
Moreover, it is entirely possible that the line is actually a border rather
than a drawing line.

Thanks. It worked like a charm.

Go to Edit/Replace. Click the "More" button if the extra options aren't
showing. Click on "Special" to bring up the drop down menu, then click on
graphic (horizontal lines are considered graphics like clipart). Then put
your special character in the "replace with" field. As long as you don't have
other graphics in the document this should work just fine, but if there are
logos or clipart or something it'll replace them too.

Ah, that sort of horizontal line I have avoided like the plague because I
have found them difficult to deal with (and unnecessary in my work).

Hi, I cannot put the horizontal line icon back on my toolbar or the undo/redo
that is now light grey.
My horizontal line is not filled in and it is double, i cant make it black
because there isnt a format object on my bar, it wont let me put one there.
what is wrong?
