Replacement for Epson 4870?

One of my two Epson 4870's [the one at work] has died. I really liked
the 4870, but it's been a couple of years since I bought it. Is there
anything better out there now?

I want to scan negatives as well as photos.

The 4990 is its direct replacement. I don't know if Epson will be
introducing a yearly "upgrade" at PMA in February or not.
