As u know,when the outlook express file(i.e inbox.idx,outbox.idx) is
large(300-700MB),
outlook express will crash easily.maybe can not open theinbox ,outbox etc.

In past,I will use MS Outlook to Replace.
However, now I have not enough MS Office.
Would anyone suggest any good Free E-mail system(look like outlook)....I am
trying thunderbird...I hope it can be well

Install Outlook 2003>open it>Click File>Import and Export to import your
messages and Contacts into Outlook 2003.

IkkI,

Your *.dbx files come to 300-700MB. No need to replace and don't know what
you mean by "However, now I have not enough MS Office." but, I'm sure you
mean well by it. Time to do some cleaning.

1) Anything in the OE Deleted items? If yes delete them and compact your OE
folders. If not, we'll come back to it.
2) Emails with attachments? If the attachments have meaning to you, save
them in your My Music, My Pictures, My Videos folders. Then delete them
from OE.
3) Emails that don't mean too much to you? Delete them.
4) Get your OE file sizes down to a level you can back it up somewhere such
that you can open it again if need be.
5) Leave only relevent emails you need and delete the rest after backing the
files up.
6) Compact OE folders.

No need to go as far as a replacement unless you're going to Outlook as it's
far more heavy duty. Keep OE for news groups....

Indeed!

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only).

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.
