Repeating Automatic Updates

Hi. I have Automatic Updates set to notify. For the past 2
days Automatic Updates keeps notifying me of a security
update for .NET framework version 2.0 (KB917283). This
notification will occur every minute unless I Turn off
Automatic Updates.

Here, even after having let it install right after release, we get recurring
notifications that KB917537 (MS06-034, "Vulnerability in Microsoft Internet
Information Services using Active Server Pages Could Allow Remote Code
Execution") wants to be installed. Over and over. For the second and all
following times of installation, it tells about being successful, but it
doesn't want a reboot. One minute later, the next "new update" notification
icon appears. What I have found out is that this happens on clients that
were upgrades from Win2K to XP in the past, as well as servers that were
upgraded from Server 2000 to 2003 Server. On machines (either XP or 2003
Server) that were freshly installed, this patch is not applied at all. And
these are all machines that DO NOT have IIS installed. And then there is our
Exchange Server 2003 running on 2003 Server, upgraded in the past from
Server 2000, where indeed an IIS is running (for Web Access), and there the
automatic installation of the patch fails. Did not try to install it
manually.

Huh? I have .NET Framework installed and yes I would like to install this.

It shows up in the Add/Remove Programs. I uninstalled it
now it doesn't seem to ask anymore even though it doesn't
appear to be installed.

I hate to deflect posters to that clunky awful web community, but I have
found the need over the last few months to add it to my favourites(don't
tell anybody - I do not like to admit I have done this)but I happened to
venture in there earlier and saw this

Now, I have not gone through all the bloody posts to see if you yourself has
already been in there - apologies if you have.

Run it, and use the spin box to remove Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.

Leave version 1 alone. After it uninstalls and reboots, go to Windows Update.
