Repeated instances of My Documents?

P

Paul R

New to XP and working with it to install/transfer software and files.
Just saw that My Documents appears 3 times in my pc, namely under:

1. Desktop\My Documents
2. My Computer\Owner's Documents\My Documents
3. C:\Documents & Setings\Owner\My Documents

Now whenever I open up Win Explorer, the cursor highlights the
Desktop\My Documents and trees the folder open in the right side view pane.

Are any of these redundant and, therefore, can be deleted?

Main reason I ask is because I had been attempting to drag&drop contents
of the Desktop\My Documents folder unto my CD-R/W disc and noticed the
transfer didn't go thru the first time, though the second time it did.
Now I'm wondering if when I highlighted the receiving folder in the DLA
drive I may have inadvertently missed and placed them elsewhere without
realizing, perhaps in one of those 3 locations?

BTW, from an earlier post I made re. how to drag&drop unto a CD-R/W, the
link that led me to the DLA app for XP made it work for me just fine. No
need to buy that 3rd party app after all. Thanks to all that helped!

Hi Paul,

They're not redundant as in multiple copies of the same folder. Your third
listing is the actual location in the file system, the others are
essentially mirrors of the same folder. This folder has special attributes
that allow it to appear this way, mainly for convenience in accessing it.
This is by design.
