repeated bootup

Brian

Can anyone help me with a problem of Windows 2000 booting
up to the point just before the desktop appears and then
repeatedly going through the process. Trying to re-
install Windows 2000 I get the message NT5INF.CAT on
Service pack 2 CD is needed even though that disc is in
the CD Player.
Thanks.

Hi Brian,

This behavior can occur if Adaptec DirectCD software has been run on the computer
before you started the Windows 2000 in-place upgrade. For more information, see the
following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article:

KB228852 - Access to CD-ROM Lost When GUI-Mode Setup Starts
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=228852

And this behavior can be associated with out-of-date firmware on the CD-ROM drive, or
if the CD-ROM drive is incompatible with Windows 2000. For more information, see the
following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article:

KB228852 - Access to CD-ROM Lost When GUI-Mode Setup Starts
