Repairing OS

I received an error on a Win2k workstation stating that
C:\WinNT\system32\config\system file was missing or corrupt. I go to repair
the OS using the Win2k Reinstallation CD but receive error Automated System
Recovery encountered an internal inconsistency (A2210) and cannot continue.
Is there anyway to repair the OS instead of reloading the software again?

We just had a similar issue and found it to be bad RAM. We received the same
error. You should be able to reload the OS right over top of what is there as
long as you do not reformat.

Before doing anything to the OS or the HD, I would check the memory.
Google for memtest or somesuch standalone tester.

Hi Cory,
Perform a Windows XP parallel installation on a different partition or on
the same partition but in different folder say winnt1(in case you have only
one partition). Boot through the parallel installation. Backup the following
file:
c:\winnt\system32\config\system to c:\backreg
Now open regedit. Select Hkey_local_machine. Click on files->load hive.
Browse to c:\winnt\system32\config\system file and name it as test.
Now select the test and click on files->unload hive.
Try to boot through the first installation and see what happens.

I don't think it would be wise to load a hive from
XP onto a Win2K machine.

Hi,
There are no issues in loading a win2k hive in a winxp registry editor
rather it will amputate all the corruption in the win2k registry, if there is
any, due to its auto repair feature.
