Hi,

By hitting "R", you are accessing the Recovery Console. This is a command
line environment from which you can run certain repair operations. If you
are trying to do a repair installation, do not hit "r", but rather start the
installer. Hit F8 to agree to the license screen, and it should now detect
and offer to repair the existing installation.

Greetings --

The password being requested is that of the built-in Administrator
account, not the password for any other user accounts you may have
created. Unless you've deliberately set the Administrator's password
via the Management Console (_not_ the Control Panel), it's probably
still blank. WinXP Pro asks you to set the Administrator's password
during installation, but WinXP Home doesn't.

Hi,

Data, programs, and settings should be retained. However, a wise person will
always back up anything critical before doing any system operations.
