What checks the installation program of windows to know that there is a
windows installed?
Sometimes i try to repair it but it doesn't find any installation, the
installation is there, of course.
And the utility ERD Commander find it an work with it.

i would guess it looks for a FAT32 or NTFS partion, and if it then
finds that, id guess it looks at the boot.ini on that partion to
determin what is installed. Just a guess, but an educated guess at
that.
 
I tried to rebuild the boot.ini with the recover console, and it works,
it find the xp installation.
But the reparation program not.
