Repair Search for People function

Guest

Recently, I found that if I choose "Search -> For People" option from the
Start menu (classic mode), nothing happens, the Search dialog box does not
appear, no error message shows.

Does anyone know how to repair this feature? (repair Registry settings?)

I am using Windows XP SP2 with latest updates installed.

Thank you very much for your kind help!

Try Start | Eun and type

regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 %Windir%\srchasst\srchui.dll

You may have to restart your computer.

Dear Iceman,

Thank you very much for your help. But it still doesn't work.

In fact, I can use the "Search for Files or Folders" and "Search On the
Internet". I just cannot use the "Search for People" which should open the
Find People dialog box for me to search the Address Book, Active Directory,...

Best regards,
Chris Lee.

You could try reinstalling the Search Companion files.

1. Log on to the computer by using an account with administrator
permissions.
2. Click Start, click Run, type: %systemroot%\inf , and then click OK.
3. Locate the "Srchasst.inf" file.
4. Right-click the "Srchasst.inf" file, and then click Install. This
reinstalls the files that Search Companion uses.

NOTE: You may need your Windows XP CD-ROM to finish installing Search
Companion.

Hi Chris,

See if this command-line helps. Click Start, Run and type:

regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\wabfind.dll"

Press {ENTER}

Logoff and login back and see if the Search function works.

Dear Iceman,

Thank you again for your help. I tried your new suggestion but it doesn't
work too.

I found that the Search -> For People is related to Outlook Express Address
Book and I searched for resources about reinstall it, studied the registry,
and finally I found the solution! I installed the wab50.inf and it works
again.

Thank you again for your inspiration!

Best regards,
Chris Lee.

Dear Ramesh,

Thank you very much for your help!

Finally I solved the problem by installing the wab50.inf and I do not know
whether your solution can also solve it. But I think the problem is related
to registry so may be your solution is better.

Best regards,
Chris Lee.

Hello Chris,

Running the wab50.inf is comprehensive, and that procedure automatically registers wabfind.dll as well. I'm glad that you got this resolved, and thanks for the update! And yes, registering the module manually would have done the trick, as well :)
