repair problem

A while back, my computer crashed enough times for this message to appear
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\Windows\System32\config\system"
Well i fixed the problem, my computer does boot, but it crashes a lot and i
think its because there is a file that is still corrupt in that folder.
Which is where the problem comes in.

well, i have a windows xp cd, and i want to repair the file, but whenever i
go into the repair screen, it asks for an adminstrator password. On that
particular computer, i never set an administrator password, can anyone tell
me what is the default windows admin password or any way that i can bypass
that option, cause i dont want to reformat computer, but i do want to repair
those files or at least replace them to see if they are the problem or not.
Any help is appreciated.

Malke,
I've run into this same problem (XP). I've never set a password for adm. and
when I tried to log on in "normal mode" as adm. my access is denied when
password is blank. "Safe mode" I have no problem, but symantec integator
fails along with other virus scanners in that mode. So... I let Xp load to
log on page (Which only shows Owner), Alt+Ctrl+Del twice to bring up Adm. log
on, then I'm stuck. Is there a way to over-ride this (ie: create new
password)? I've been trying to clean a keylogger off for almost a week, but
windows has locked a driver and on reboot dsk chck is not discovered.
Programs I've been using: Ad-aware, Ewido, System Machanic 6, Norton security
suite, *Beta 1, Windows Malicious Software Removal.
*My Beta 1 has been experiencing problems. Up dates are fine, sending system
report fails (Internet config. seems fine but Beta says it's not) and auto
run scan fails. Sorry for the long story.
Troy.

There is a bug in WinXP which prevents you from using Recovery Console
even though the right password is typed when prompted....
So, here's the trick.
2. Enable Administrator to Log On Automatically in Recovery Console
3. Reboot into WinXP.
4. Select Start | Run, then type regedit Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Setup
\RecoveryConsole Change the SecurityLevel DWORD value data to 1.
5. Reboot the PC
