Repair Passwod

Does anyone know the password for repairing a XP setup? I put in recovery CD
for Dell Dimension PC and when I take the repair option I am asked for an
administrator password. I've tried the usual:

admin, password

But nothing seems to work. I've even tried the password I use on the PC but
that does not work either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When Dell ships a computer, isn't the Administrator password
left blank? If you had inserted a password, then rack your
brain.

When you first setup any DELL PC/laptop, you are always prompted to
create user accounts. All of these user accounts are administrators by
default unless you changed them. Therefore, try one of the accounts you
created using the password you set (or not set!) and it should work.

The default in Dell PCs is * (star) but as soon as you create a user
account, this defaults to the password of first user account!!

I guess I must have asked the quetion incorrectly, but here goes the answer:

When running XP setup and when the first screen comes up asking you if you
want to reinstall XP or REPAIR the existing installation, do not answer with
an "R" to repair. Press the ENTER key and the license agreement appears.
Press F8 to accept the license agreement and the previous window asking if
you want to reinstall or repair will come up again. If you answer with an "R"
to repair at this screen you are not asked for a password.

Thanks for everyone's help/time. Have a great week.

The recovery console needs the pasword for the person who installed XP, not
for just any administrator. If the install was done by a major PC maker,
you may need to contact them for it.
However, the password is sometimes blank. So, try just pressing enter when
you are asked for a password, it may help.
Or, if you can get into XP, even safe mode, you can arrange to bypass the
password by the following registry change:

Instead, just run REGEDIT (Start à Run à Regedit)
Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Setup\Recover
yConsole
Set the DWORD SecurityLevel value to 1
