There are many reasons why you might not be able to add a new DC to a
domain. If you are not getting any other errors apart from this then the
ntds.dit is probably not to blame.
Having said that, the best utility to repair a corrupt database is
ntbackup.exe. Use this to restore an old backup.

We've acutually had this problem for a while...I just took over for the previous netadmin.....problems been around for about 1 year...so any good backup from then I would not be able to use
