Thanx in advance for any help. If I do a repair
installation with Win XP Pro, will it erase any of my
programs or files ?

No, but always backup important stuff in case something goes wrong during
the install.

Not when done properly.

It ought not to; but it is always wise to have important data backed up
before doing anything drastic, just in case, say, of a power failure at
a critical moment.

Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard disk, then boot the XP CD, start
Setup (do not take 'Repair' at this stage), then after the license
agreement take 'Repair Installation'. This will retain your existing
software installations and most settings. But Updates will have to be
run again, especially SP1 if that was not included on your CD

It is important to activate the basic XP Firewall before you ever
connect to the net to get the patches, so as to be protected against
things like the BLAST worm.

You could lose everything [ie all your current data] in a second.
