Got a new mobo, cpu and dvd player. Tried to use my old 160gb hard drive,
but, when the computer boots up, I get a couple screens asking about
starting Windows normally or in safe mode. Regardless of what I choose, the
computer shows the BSOD for about 1/10 sec and reboots. The blue screen is
too fast to read. This is an endless loop until I shut the computer off.
I tried to do a repair install, but get to the point where it says windows
will install over the old installation and delete all my user info, links to
programs, etc. At that point, I quit the install. I never get the option of
choosing "R" for a repair.
Is there any way to get XP working without losing all my program links, user
IDs and everything else? I'm particularly concerned about losing my emails.
I have the computer running on another hard drive with XP (temporarily?)
installed, and I can access the 160GB drive through Windows Explorer.
Thanks for any help,
JC
