Repair install

Hi there.

Hope somebody can help.

I am trying to do a repair installation of my windows xp os.
However, when I get to the page where I have to accept the license, I press
F8 and instead of getting the page which gives you the option of repairing a
previous installation it goes directly to this screen instead:
'The following list shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on
this computer.
To set up windows XP on the selected item press enter
To create a partition in the unpartioned space press c
To delete the selcted partion press D

39206 MB Disk 0 at ID 0 on bus 0 on atapi (MBR)

c: - Partition (NTFS) - 39198 MB (29921 MB free)
Unpartitoned space 8MB.'

What do I do? Anyone know? Why couldn't it display the page to show the
exisiting installation of windows?

Any help welcomed

Hello again, Fiesta:
In your previous posting, this is what you had to say...

">> > Hi there.
I, and I believe others, responded to your plea for help. My response (I've
snipped the irrelevant parts) to you was as follows...

"It's difficult, if not impossible to say precisely at this distance what
went wrong with your system. Frankly, it would be best if you took the
computer back to PC World (I take it they're some sort of computer repair
facility), explain the problem, and let them salvage the situation as best
they can. Is there some reason why you cannot do this?

If there is a reason that you cannot return the computer to PC World, then
what I would recommend you do at this point is perform a Repair install of
your XP operating system. It's not as difficult as that name implies. If you
do a Google search for "xp repair install", you'll be rewarded with a number
of links to websites that have detailed information on how to undertake a
Repair install. The advantage of this process is that your programs/data
will be saved and hopefully, the system will be functional. But understand
there's no guarantee of this happy outcome, however the XP Repair install
process has proven to be a godsend to many unhappy users. If the Repair
doesn't work, we'll have to go on to other things.

Good luck.
Anna"

Your current effort to "reinstall" XP is *not* the appropriate way to
undertake a Repair install. You must first boot with the XP installation
disk and perform the Repair install from that point on. I repeat that you
would do well for yourself if you would read the detailed instructions on
performing a Repair install that you will find on a number of websites. As I
previously mentioned, a simple Google search will point you to those
websites.

Hi Anna.

Thank you for your replies, but have performed your instructions and hence
the reason for this thread.
I booted the windows CD up, to do the repair install, followed the
instructions as detailed in one of the websites from the google search, but
as advised, once I press F8 to agree to the Licence, it doesn't search for
previous installations in order for me to repair, but launches into the
partition advice page.

Any ideas welcomed and thank you again

Regards Fiesta
