Repair install?

Can you do a "repair install" on a w2k pro machine? It can be done on winXP,
I have done it.

I tried this, to fix a problem, but came up with a screen
that said a previous install failed, logoff and the install
process willl continue then run the in-place upgrade. I
did this but not install process has failed that I can see.
Any ideas? Thanks.
