My friend has a laptop with WinXP. He is having all kinds of problems and
wants to do a repair/install. He has the XP CD. Would someone please list
the step by step procedure for a repair/install? Thanks in advance.

1. Boot using that CD.
2. Follow the steps.
3. It'll detect the installed version of windows and will ask you whether
you want to repair it or want to install a fresh windows?
4. press the required key for your desired option.
5. That's it. The wizard will install/repair windows within a few minutes.

Boot from the XP CD - there are two repair options - the first will be
Recovery Consol - ignore and let setup continue. Setup will notify you that
it has found a XP installation and offer to repair - high light XP install
and select repair.

The repair function is actually an "Upgrade" installtion - your product key
will be required.

But be aware that depending on what his problems are, the repair
installation may or may not help. It is *not* the answer to all
issues. It's not even the answer to most issues.
