Repair In XP 34 Minutes Into Installation Screen Blacks out

I was doing a repair installation on Windows XP at the 34 minute point my
monitor flickered a couple of times and then it went black. The computer was
still running, but the monitor never came back on. Can someone tell me what I
need to do so I can complete the repair install and at least save the
information that is on the hard drive?

Get a Linux Livecd Distro (knoppix, for instance), copy the info you
want to save onto a USB stick or a secondary HDD, and then (if you're
smart) wipe Windoze and install Linux, or (if you're not so smart) wipe
disk and reinstall Windoze.
