Repair Database

I sure hope someone can help me with this - I have designed a database that
over the last couple weeks has been working fine. All of a sudden today it
seems like nothing is working right. The users that are in the database are
getting kicked out of it for some reason, which I can't figure out and then
it is telling them that the database needs to be repaired. This all happens
while other users are still in there working. Does anyone have any ideas
about what could be causing this and how I can fix it. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Multi-user databases are prone to corruption unless they are split, keeping
the tables in a back end database in a shared folder with each user having a
local copy of the front end. Access has a database splitter listed under
Tools>Database Utilities. It does a great job for you.

If splitting is not an option for you, you should be able to repair the
database if you get all the users out of it. Once they are all out, open it
exclusively and compact it.

But take heed...once a database starts corrupting frequently, it is
*definately* time to split it before it becomes unrepairable.

Your database is corrupt. Get your users out of it as quickly as you
can. Then make a backup. Then try to Compact and Repair the
database. You may get lucky and the Compact and Repair will run to
completion. Pay attention to any informative messages Access
delivers. It may be worthwhile to write them down for further
reference or in case you need to get help. There are outfits that
offer Access database recovery. You may have just a few records gone.
Do your best to reason out what you need to do to recover as much data
as you can.

Whatever the immediate outcome you (all Access users) should adopt a
policy of frequent backups and Compact and Repair cycles. How often?
How much data do you want to have at risk of total loss or having to
re-enter from paper notes? Do it at least every day the application
is used.
