Reordering tasks while viewing them "By Category"

Is there any way to set Outlook 2007 up so that I can drag/drop tasks to
reorder them within a category while I'm looking at them in "By Category".?
Apparently I can only do this if I view tasks with no sort at all.

Sorting and grouping are not the same so your explanation is confusing.
Would you please explain what you want to be able to do and I'll give you a
hand.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. Say I have 20 tasks that are divided up into 4
categories. (Each category has 5 tasks.) While I view them grouped by
category, I want to drag and drop tasks individually within the category to
change their order. If I choose View --> Current View --> By Category, the
tasks are displayed grouped by category as I describe but I can't drag, for
example, the fourth task in a category up to make it the first task in that
category. I can only do that if I view it in the "simple list" (View -->
Current View --> Simple List). Was that more clear?

I've added a new field for that to my view and enter numbers for the
importance. Then you can sort by that field.

If you use steps of, say, 100 per item (so, the most important item has the
number 100, the next 200, etc.) it's quite easy to re-order without that you
have to change the numbers for all of the items.

They're sorted by whatever field you've chosen as the sort field, usually
the due date.

Even when I don't have the items SORTED by any field (only GROUPED by
category) I can't change their order within the group by dragging and
dropping them. They stay locked in the order they were in when they were NOT
grouped or SORTED by anything.

I appreciate the suggestion. I'll try that but it would be nice if Outlook
allowed you to drag and drop to change the order of tasks in any view so long
as the view wasn't SORTING by any field. Dragging and dropping is just so
much more convenient, especially when you want to move reorder multiple tasks
at once.

and that's the way Outlook behaves. You can sort first (click a column
header) and then Group by dragging a column header to the Group By Box.
