reoccuring Spyware

J

jcarpenter

I discovered some spyware / maleware on my PC last week.My
operating system is Windows XP Pro.
With limited knowledge and lots of inguiries, I have
attempted to eleminate the enemies.
Scans showed: CoolWWWSearch.Aff.Winshow
SearchHook.Atlpz
In addition there was 2 sites ( Xrated) added to my
favorites, and a strange home page. I could not delete any
of this, nor take my home page back to Default.

I used various combinations of Ad-aware SE (updated),VX2
Cleaner, Spybot S&D (updated), CWShredder as well as
Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta1. I disabled the SYSTEM RESTORE
and ran several combinations of the above software. Each
time it showed the trojans killed, but they would reappear
after rebooting and re-scanning.I continued my assault
with repeated attempts and finally reached, what appeared
to be, some success.
After 3 days of clean scans,I enabled the SYSTEM RESTORE,
reset my home page to Google as opposed to MSN Default and
reinstalled some banking sites. I have scheduled Microsoft
AntiSpyware to run every day. This AM it reported
malicious spyware infections back. I am really confused
and wonder if I ever really had success at all. Is this a
repeat? Is it a new attack? HELP, if you can

It happens that jcarpenter formulated :

Yes probably

- First send a suspected spyware report to MS about this, menu tools
within MSAS.

I think you must solve this with HijackThis and
go to a forum specialized in these logs.

http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm (step 7)

or one of these.

Sorry, I can't help you. I am having the same problems. I
scan and it tells me spyware has been removed, then I
scan again and the same spyware reappears. What is the
problem? There is not a way to actually contact anyone
for help. If you can solve anything please post it. Thanks

Please restart your machine in safe mode, and do full, deep scans with
Microsoft Antispyware and your updated antivirus application.
