Hi there,

XP Prof SP2 with latest updates and D-Link Wireless DSL Router

For some reason, my PC "forgets" the router default IP adress 1 out of
every 100 times a re-start.

I then run the repair to repair the connection, and 1 out of 10 times I'm
lucky, and it works. During the repair I see a message "Renewing IP
Address". Is there some command I can use to do this "manually", to force
the router to renew the IP Address?

Regards,

Deon

The command to renew an IP address in windows XP is:

ipconfig /renew

This should be run from a command prompt. You can create a .BAT file and
place that line in there and have it run like a program would. Open note
pad and paste the line above in. Save the file as renew.bat (make sure it
doesn't have a .txt extention)

But the bigger issue is why it's not allowing you to get an IP address. You
might want to investigate changing channels (anything other than channel 6!
:) ) and moving your router or wireless card around.

from command line type ipconfig /renew

or you could put that line in a batch file on your desktop or even in
startup group. To see all of the available switches you can use with this
command type in ipconfig /?

Thanx, Steve,

What I cannot understand, is that the wireless network of my PC sees the
wireless connection with my router. It just sometimes cannot connect - I
get a message that it could not connect and that I must get the network
guy, in this instance, me.

Thanx for the advice on renewing the IP address. Is:

ipconfig /renew all I have to type?

Regards,

Deon

This seems to occur when you are use the wireless network card settings
manager and XP's SP2 wap manager at the same time.

Yes that is the command to renew an ip address.

If you get an error try releasing first:

ipconfig /release

and as mentioned in the other post ipconfig /? will list more commands
(although a little more advanced than needed for your issue).

Good Luck,
SteveC
