Renaming "user" folder in Docs & Settings

C

Charlie

I have a new laptop the was pre checked by Best Buy that
included activating Windows (if I had know they were
going to activate Windows, I would have told them not to
do that). Anyway, Windows was activated with default
settings. I managed to rename the registered owner name
thru the registry and change user account name. I can't
change the default named "user" folder within the
Documents & Settings folder, however. Since this is a
windows system folder, how or where can I go to change
the name "user" and all references to an actual name such
as the registered owners name as it would be if I was
able to activate Windows myself. My other PC's have Docs
& Settings folder correct "All Users" and "Charlie".

Any help appreciated.

TIA

Charlie

If you want that user folder to actually be renamed, it is easier to delete
the user completely and then re-create it.

At this time, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to rename that folder as
many registry entries are likely hard coded to the original user name.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
