Renaming documents and settings folder?

Hi

I am having a problem with making a CD copy (or any copy for that
matter) of my backup folder due to the length of many of the path
names. It occurs to me that one of the biggest names, and the least
informative for me, is "documents and settings" 22 char! I undestand
that this is a system generated name and connot easily be changed, but
is there a way around this? Is it just a case of changing a registry
setting/settings and renaming then folder?

Thanks
Pete

No.
I wouldn't even attempt it.
You can move it at install - but I do not think you can rename it.

As for it being the "least informative".. Why? It contains your
profile(s) - which contain every users Documents (My Documents) and Settings
(look and feel.)

Perhaps you should just move your "My Documents" elsewhere - because i have
a feeeling that is where your "long paths" are likely coming into play. You
right click on the folder and can move it where ever you want.. Including
the root of a drive (although that is a bad idea in most cases. heh)

Not sure of your CD software, but try using
%userprofile%
instead of
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here

%userprofile% is shorter.
