Renamed User folder, lost documents

I did it, and I am mortified. While logged on as Administrator, I
changed my User Name, then changed the name of the associated folder
under Documents and Settings to reflect the new name, logged back on
under changed User Name, and all settings, folders and documents are
gone.

I realised right away that I should not have changed the folder name,
so I re-logged on as Administrator, and will not touch the laptop until

this is resolved. I am using another computer with hope that I can
somehow recover the files.

Please tell me if there is _any way_ to recover these files myself. I
am very patient, and am able to use the registry editor, etc. if
needed.

Many thanks... j

Are you 100% sure the stuff is gone? Log in as administrator, and make sure
Explorer is set to display hidden/system files -

You may need to take ownership to actually access subfolders, etc., note.

No, my gut tells me my files _are_ in there somewhere, but due to my
impulsive three tiered folder re-naming marathon , I just don't know
where or how to get them back into the correct user profile.

When I first logged on with my newly changed user name, everything was
OK, it wasn't until after I fussed with the Documents and Settings
folders names that the files "went AWOL." I did not see any rogue user
folders when I looked, and that account is set to display all. I
simply logged off and re-logged on as Admin and left it, while I
researched what to do using this PC.

Please see my other reply... (in my concern, I also posted to
win2000.file_system, registry and security). I'm about to try an idea
someone messaged to me, and I'll get back with the results.

Thank you -- J
