I am running XP Pro on a Dell notebook. After a few hours of work, renamed
files are not reflected as such unless I close the folder and then reopen.
Same problem with a new subfolder. It is not shown in the parent folder
unless the parent is closed and then reopened. Files copied or moved- same
problem. Shut down/restart provides a temporary fix but the problem comes
back after a short while. Suggestions?

My response assumes you talking about viewing from within Windows Explorer:
Do the files/folders populate after you hit the refresh button (e.g. "F5")?

Actually, I was not using windows explorer per se- just navigating from "my
documents". But F5 worked- so thanks for the hint. I still wonder why it is
not refreshing automatically, but I can live with it. Thanks.

Glad to hear F5 worked.
BTW, if you are " navigating from "my documents" ", then you are, in fact,
using Windows Explorer.
