How do I remove XP (Home Edition). I am going to remove and reinstall
the system. So I go to install in Ad/Remove programs? All I have is
Install, do I remove that?

Here is what you do:
1. Insert your WinXP installation CD.
2. Reboot the machine.
3. Get into the BIOS setup. Check your PC's manual if unsure how to do this.
4. Set the CD drive as the primary boot device.
5. Save the settings and reboot.
6. Follow the prompts.

If you really want to remove your existing installation then you have to let
the installation program format your hard disk. You will, of course, lose
all your data and EMail files.

You format the partition, of course that means that all data on the
drive, including your personal files, will be lost.

To format the drive boot the computer with your Windows XP CD and when
you get to the disk and partitions selection screen select the partition
where you want to install Windows and have the XP setup program format it.

You will only be able to remove XP by reformatting the hard drive. This will
completely erase all data on your hard drive, allowing you to then either
re-install XP or another operating system.

Before you start reformatting or re-installing make sure you backup any
important documents/files you need to keep. Once you reformat your hard
drive 'everything' will be erased.

As others have said, there's no need to remove. Insert WinXP setup CD and
format your drive while reinstalling.

Think in these terms: You can never "remove" something from a computer, you
can only replace it with something else. That "something else" may be all
binary zeros, but it is a replacement, not a removal.

With this concept firmly in hand, you ask yourself: "With what can I replace
XP? Ah, ha! I'll replace XP with a fresher version!" Once that insight is
gained, you're on your way.
