Boot with your ME recovery disk and format with it. That will get rid of XP
and format your drive in one step.

Since he says he wants to go back to FAT32, his drive is clearly
NTFS. That means that when he tries to format the drive it will
fail, since format won't recognize the NTFS partition.

What he needs to do is first run FDISK and delete the NTFS
partition, then create one or more FAT32 partitions. Only then
can he format the partitions he's created.

If you have converted the hard drive to NTFS then you will have to
delete the existing partition and create a new one.

1. Boot the computer with a WindowsMe Startup Disk (get one from
www.bootdisk.com if you do not already have one)
2. Choose either option - with or without CDROM support. It does not
matter at this point.
3. When the computer has finished booting enter the following
command:

FDISK

Make certain you say YES to the question about support for large hard
drives.
Choose the options to delete the existing partition. An NTFS
partition will be a Non-DOS Partition to FDISK.
When the partition has been deleted choose the option to create a new
partition. If you want the entire disk as a single partition (which
is the normal way) then just create a Primary DOS partition and make
it the maximum size.
When the partition has been created exit FDISK and reboot the
computer, again with the Startup Disk. This time be sure to select
the option with CDROM support.
When it finishes booting enter the following command:

FORMAT C:

When the drive is formatted insert your WindowsMe CDROM and enter the
following commands:

E:
SETUP

If that does not work for some reason remove the Windows Startup Disk
and reboot the computer with the WindowsMe CDROM still in the drive.
The CD should be bootable and you should go right into the
installation process.

Good luck
