Hello all,

Does Windows Messenger come pre installed/pre-packaged with Windows 2000?.
or is it a download you have to obtain afterwards?. If so how do you disable
access or remove it completely from the OS?.

Thanks
Paul

Greetings Paul,

No Messenger client comes with Windows 2000. However, you can install MSN Messenger or
Windows Messenger on Windows 2000. The current MSN Messenger clients (versions 5 and 6)
can't be [easily] be disabled but Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger 4.x can by using this
..reg file/key:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/disablemessenger.reg

To deal with the MSN Messenger 5/6 and any other programs that you wish to restrict, see
here:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=323525

For reference the Windows Messenger executable is named msmsgs.exe and the MSN Messenger
executable is named msnmsgr.exe.
