Removing Unwanted Desktop Icons

The other day I was on the internet and all of a sudden I
was bombarded with pop-ups. The next thing I knew there
were six new icons on my desktop (some of them are not
very nice either.) My start page was also changed to a
non working page. I proceeded to delete the icons and I
changed my start page back top what it was. I then shut
down my computer and once it was rebooted the problem
came back! I have done everything I can think of to
remove the icons and to keep my start page but nothing
has worked. I even checked for spyware and viruses but
nothing turned up. Can anyone help me?

I'm not familiar with that one -xiray- does it protect IE start page, search
page etc... from hijack's I presume?
