Removing Spyware using Regedit and Using Adaware SE

I really don't know what I'm doing with the registry but I know enough
to delete keys using regedit. Noadware has identified 7 "dangerous"
instances of spyware in on my computer. It has given me the names of
the keys. If I delete those keys and then run Norton WinDoctor will
that remove all instances of the spyware and repair my system or could
I do irreparable damage to the system.

Actually, having written the above, last night I read on this newsgroup
about Adaware SE and today I downloaded it. It even identified what the
spyware was called ... Alexa. It found 8 instances of this in my
registry and quarantined them when I instructed it to. Noadware still
identifies the "Download Accelerator Plus" spyware on my system. I
suppose I only have to instruct Adaware SE to delete those registry keys
and the offending spyware will be gone from my system. Is there any
danger to my system if I do this, on the other hand is there still
danger to my system if I don't?

Thanks in advance

PS. I left yesterdays question in since I would like to know how to make
changes in the registry safely. I have a job on a computer help desk
and that sort of information would make me more confident in my job.

You export the registry keys that you plan to delete (to a .reg file)
before you delete them. You can then restore them by double clicking the
..reg file, assuming you haven't screwed things up so badly the system
won't boot (if you manage that, then it helps if you have recently run
NTBackup,
which will have put a complete registry set under c:\windows\repair ..
how you get that one back into play is a whole separate MS Knowledge
base article though).

Thanks .. I checked out your site ... apparently Noadware 3.0 which was
the version I had had a note which said it was more reliable. But I did
download it in the confusion over the name AdAware. It doesn't tell me
anything that Adaware doesn't, you have to pay $20 to remove spyware
using it so really it is just surplus to requirements.

Thanks to anyone that replied to me in this thread.

I have Norton Registry Tracker on my system. Will that be useful in any
way ? I've run it a few times, it seems to be an idiots registry
re-installer. I don't pretend know much about how to operate it
properly though.
