Removing SP3

I installed IE8 before SP3 and now cannot open IE8
I have tried to remove SP3 by the suggested Add/Remove method but continue
to get file not found warning box. Have checked and it says it is installed.
I am looking for another way to remove it without rewriting my computer.

Try re-installing SP3 and then uninstalling
it one more time.

try a/r via safe mode.

When you installed SP3, did you have IE6 or IE7?

Thanks to all for your suggestions.
I tried to reinstall SP3 and then remove, no luck.
IE 8 had no option for removal.
Turned off anti-virus and reinstalled, no luck.
I then used the Norton removal tool to remove any possible remnants of old
anti-virus programs and after restart, all is fine.
