Removing shared drive references

I have 3 computers on a home network. One of the XP computers had 2
external USB drives attached to it that were shared at the drive level. I
am no longer have the 2 drives. If I look at Network Places on the computer
that had the drives attached, the drives no longer appear. They do appear
in Network Places on the 2 other computers and I cannot remove them. If I
look in View Workgroup Computers on the computer that had the drives
attached, they are both listed there and I cannot remove the drive entries.
Being that I no longer have the drives, I can't mount them and cancel the
share. Is there anyway to remove any reference to these 2 drives. No
matter what I do, I cannot remove them. Thank you.

One more thing I have noticed on the computer that had the drives attached -
if I go into Computer Management (Local)/Shared Folders/Shares, I see the 2
drives listed.

Dear BillW,

Try deleting the shares here. Control Panel / Administrative Tools /
Computer Management - Shares - and delete the shares.

Hope that helps.

Thank you, but I did try that and there is no delete option either using
right-click or anywhere on the tool bar. Hitting the delete key does
nothing. Thanks again.

I found reference to the "net share" command. It looks pretty straight
forward and it will allow you through the command prompt to delete shares.
The command I would use is the following:

net share ShareName / delete

I would appreciate it if anyone familiar with this command would let me know
if I can proceed without risk. Thank you.

Dear BillW,

In Computer Management / Shares - the right hand window lists the
drives. Right click on them. Select "Stop Sharing".

Yes C:\>net share <yoursharename> /delete will also work.

Good luck
