removing shadows

all of a sudden after installing windows Washer my desktop icons which have
the name of the icon under them have now a shadow. where can I go to remove
the shadow under the words formy icons?

Right click My Computer and select Properties to bring up the System
Properties screens. On the Advanced page of System Properties, click the
Settings button in the Performance section. In the next screen, you'll find
the option to "use drop shadows" towards the bottom of the Visual Effects
list. Uncheck that box and click OK.

NOTE: Unchecking that box usually causes "holes" to appear in the desktop
wallpaper. In other words, the transparent labels for desktop icons will be
lost. If this bothers you more than shadowed text, return to the same
Visual Effects page and replace the check for drop shadows.
