Removing Recycle Bin from desktop but keeping access to it

A

Ayric

Another tidying question.

I used TweakUI to remove the Recycle Bin icon from my desktop, as I
want a clean, iconless desktop. Worked very well, but then I noticed
the bin had been removed from My Computer as well. I can't access it.

Is it possible to remove it from the desktop and still be able to
access it?

Thanks in advance!

Ayric,

Hiding the Recycle Bin using TweakUI does not remove the icon from Windows
Explorer view. You can still access it.

Make sure you have the Folder pane enabled (i.e. Windows Explorer view), and
this is the default folder hierarchy:

Desktop
|- My Documents
|- My Computer
|- My Network Places
|- Recycle Bin

Note that there are several ways to hide the Recycle Bin icon. TweakUI only
hides the icon from the Desktop, but not from Explorer and other places.

Thanks Ramesh, but I can't see it. Where do I find it?

Hi Ayric, I have a clear desktop and the way I handled the recycle bin was to
make a shortcurt before I removed it. You can then move the shortcut to
wherever you want in Start > Programs. It works well for me.

Hi, I have just checked and if the bin is removed using the group policy
editor it is also removed from explorer. If it removed by deselecting it in
the desktop section of tweak UI it can be accessed from explorer.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Colin! It seems as it actually cannot be accessed from Explorer
in my system after removing it inTweakUI. Can't figure out why, but the
icon disappears from Explorer as well. Anyway, I did as you said and
made a shortcut, and now I'm satisfied.

Damn it looks good now! ;-)

FYI, this command-line opens Recycle bin.

explorer.exe ::{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
