Removing programs on the 'add/remove programs list'

Hi y'all

I tried to uninstall a couple of programs via
the 'add/remove program' in the control panel. However,
when those programs did not uninstall successfully, I
decided to delete the files, folders and registry entries
manually. Now, I'm stuck with having those deleted
programs remain in the program list. How can I remove
them from the program list since all the files related to
them have all been deleted?

Type Regedit in Start Run and look under here

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

select the name....right click....delete.....done....duh.

Duh........... uhhh......... you can't remove add/remove entries by right
clicking on them.

First try going into add/remove, click on the left over entry and choose
remove/uninstall. XP should see it's not there anymore and remove it. If it
does not then goto: start, type in regedit, hit enter.

Navigate to this key:

hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\uninstall

Expand the key to see it's sub folders, then delete the ones you don't need.
(you can export them before delete to be safe if you want).

I've gone through the registry entry folders and can't
find the details to the application I wanted removed from
the list in the 'Add/Remove Programs' option in the
control panel. Just to make it clearer, I installed a
demo version of VirusScan on my pc then decided to remove
it. For some reason, i tried to remove the app via the
control panel but the app name was still on the list! So
I manually deleted all files related to VirusScan. To my
surprise, the VirusScan was still on the list but cannot
be removed. I get an Error:1721 instead. There are no
more files in the HDD related to VirusScan (me thinks).
By the way, I'm running Win XP Home Edition.

Nothing in the registry points to the VirusScan icon on
the contol panel.

My answer is correct according to your question you asked. Your question isn't about control panel icons.
