Removing programs from start-up menu of XP

On Windows 98 I went to misconfig and clicked on the
start-up tab and unchecked programs that I wanted to
remove from the start-up. Is it okay if I do this in
Windows XP? I get a message when I restart my computer
telling me to undo my changes and let it start in normal
startup but I want to prevent some of the programs from
starting everytime I start up computer.

Hi Mindy,

Yes. you can use MSCONFIG in XP as well. If you get the "System
Configuration Utility" reminder at every startup, try this:

Click Start | run | type "MSCONFIG /AUTO"
Check "Don't show this message................"

The prompt will not appear in next boot. However, you need to do this
everytime you use MSCONFIG.

Yes, I use it all the time in XP. I get the same window that pops up after
reboot too. I just click the box that says don't show this again on start
up. If you go in and check/unckeck another program, the window will appear
everytime. It's just something it does. I imagine it's to keep a
program/virus/trojan horse from changing your startup settings without your
knowing about it.
