Hello,

The following article gives us some idea on where in the registry we can
disable the desktop icons:

810869 Recycle Bin Does Not Appear on the Desktop
http://kb/article.asp?id=Q810869

If you go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDes
ktopIcons

You may see the following GUIDS (if not add the ones you want to disable):

{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}= My Documents
{208D2C60-3AEA-1069-A2D7-08002B30309D} = My Network Places
{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} = My Computer
{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} = Recycle Bin

DWORD Values:
0 = Show On Desktop
1 = Dont Show on Desktop

So if the local registry has the following key set to 0 :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDes
ktopIcons
{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} Dword=0

The Recycle Bin icon will not show on the desktop.

There is a policy under User Configuration - Administrative Templates
- Desktop called "Hide All Icons on Desktop" that will hide all icons
including My Computer and the Recycle Bin from the desktop.
